High School Foreign Language Resource Center  Learning a foreign language is interesting and fun for most people. Most high school and college diplomas require a student pass foreign language classes. Foreign language skills also enable people the access to cultural experiences that they might otherwise never be exposed to, and to learn the perspective of peoples from other countries. Foreign language skills can also mean access to careers both at home and abroad. In many ways learning a foreign language is an important life skill, and for most is also an enjoyable and life changing experience.
Most high schools and colleges focus on widely spoken languages. They often also focus on languages spoken widely in their area. For instance schools in or near Canada might consider French. Spanish is widely spoken in the southern United States, and offered in many schools in this region. Universities often offer a wider array of languages like Russian, Italian, Latin, etc. Many exchange programs offer programs where one can visit a foreign country to learn a foreign language. Also, groups like the Peace Corps offer language training, and placement in foreign countries. Foreign language students can often earn money teaching their native language abroad. Combining education and travel can build one’s career opportunities, and be an interesting life experience.
